CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - A Marine has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling stolen body armor over the Internet.
Marine authorities said they believe Staff Sgt. Marvin Funiestas, 26, sold 100 to 110 of the ceramic-reinforced vests before he was arrested in November.

The vests were intended for U.S. troops; some servicemen in the Middle East have reported trouble obtaining vests.
Funiestas was sentenced last week on charges of conspiracy, wrongfully selling government property and larceny.
Investigators believe another Marine, who has not yet been charged, falsified reports about the number of vests on hand and sent vests to Funiestas, who sold about $88,000 worth of equipment for $35,000 to $40,000.
"This was brand-new equipment," prosecutor Capt. Mark Spalding said. "This is especially hard to take because we are having a hard time getting enough vests to field with our Marines."
The sale of the vests, known as Point Blank Interceptor Ballistic body armor, is restricted to law enforcement and military personnel.
Authorities are trying to retrieve the body armor. One eBay customer in San Diego bought two vests and shipped one to a son-in-law in the Army, who was stationed in Kuwait and had not been issued a vest.
Spalding said that while most of the vests were sold domestically, at least two or three went to China, raising concerns that Chinese engineers may try to duplicate the design.

Это сами пластины видимо. Они полтыщи номинально стоят. Спешил видимо. Я думал 100 полных комплектов. Хотя может он их в 1/5 цены продавал.
Конечно со скидкой продавал. Наши бы вообще по пол-литра за экземпляр брали и были бы довольны. У нас, кстати, когда я служил, двоих таки посадили. Додумались гранаты Ф1 продавать, идиоты.
Жаль не расстреляли...

Бронежилеты - это экономическое преступление, за него надо из армии гнать и карьеру на всю оставшуюся жизнь портить. А общественной опасности в его действиях мало. Гранаты - дело другое. Или жратву воровать после чего у людей язвы желудка на всю оставшуюся жизнь. За такое можно и расстрелять.

Военного который пиз..т военное имущество я бы расстреливал перед строем своей части.Потому что сегодня жилеты,завтра - гранаты.Тем более что п..дил он не от голода.
Можно, конечно. Только все же такие вещи желательно в контракте или уставе оговаривать. А о том, была ли у него финансовая необходимость мы не знаем ничего. Может его родственнику серьезную операцию сделали и он госпиталю бабки был должен?
Я так понял что из за отсутствия броников в Ирака пару человек таки погибли. Если можно доказать связь, то точно пидора к стенке, или как минимум в Левенwорт навсегда. Ненавижу воров. 😠

PHILADELPHIA - The government is trying to track down more than 150 people suspected of selling hundreds of pieces of stolen military body armor over the Internet, investigators said Thursday.

he outer tactical vests, or OTVs, and protective inserts designed to make the vests more bulletproof, were stolen from the military and sold on eBay for $200 to $1,000 apiece, said Edward T. Bradley, agent in charge of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service's Northeast field office.
Government investigators launched a sting to make purchases on the Internet auction site, and have identified suspected sellers in 33 states, U.S. Attorney Patrick L. Meehan said.
Bradley said some sellers sold the vests and inserts to the families of soldiers headed for Iraq, exploiting fears raised by reports last October that nearly one-quarter of American troops in Iraq lacked ceramic-plate body armor.
One seller advertised that with "the short numbers of body armor given to troops, now you can get one cheap," Bradley said.
Meehan said suspected drug dealers have recently been found with pieces of military body armor.
"This equipment belongs on our soldiers, not on the backs of those who seek a tactical advantage over our law enforcement personnel," he said.
The officials said they discovered sales of 539 vests and 506 inserts, and so far have recovered 88 vests and 104 inserts.
The investigators have identified 157 suspected sellers and charged seven suspects so far.
