A SOVIET MIG 21 (FISHBED) SUPERSONIC SINGLE SEAT JET FIGHTER AIRCRAFT. SN 94A7809. This is a 1972 vintage Soviet-made Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 single seat fighter aircraft. Some 50 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations a half-century after its maiden flight. The fighter made aviation records. At least by name, it is the most-produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation history and the most-produced combat aircraft since the Korean War, and it had the longest production run of a combat aircraft (1959 to 1985 over all variants). The aircraft has mid-mounted delta wings with small square tips. There is one turbojet inside the body. There is a small round air intake in the nose. There is a single exhaust. The fuselage is a long, tubular body with a blunt nose and bubble canopy. There is one belly fin under the rear section. There is a large dorsal spine flush with the canopy. The tail fin swept-back and tapered with a square tip. The flats are mid-mounted on the body, swept-back, and tapered with square tips. This particular aircraft was formerly assigned to the Polish Air Force as a front line fighter. Upon the dissolution of the U.S.S.R., a gentleman with extensive Eastern European connections made arrangements through a Polish Air Force General to purchase this aircraft, have it disassembled, crated and shipped to the United States. Upon arriving in the U.S., it was learned that the orig Soviet attack radar system was still installed in the airplane and fully functional. Reportedly it was going to be confiscated by the CIA and when the owner resisted he was informed that should he ever elect to activate it while airborne, he would immediately be shot down. The owner, realizing that discretion is the better part of valor, relinquished the attack radar to American authorities. The aircraft was reassembled and made air worthy with the assistance of Soviet Cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev, MiG-29 pilot/defector Alexander Zuyev, and former Chief Astronauts Charles Precourt and Robert "Hoot" Gibson among others. Some of the instrumentation has been replaced with American products for flight safety. A Garmin GPS replaces the attack radar. Mr. Gibson flew this aircraft at the 1998 OshKosh Air Show. It currently is available for inspection by appointment in Victoria, TX. The original Polish aircraft log books, U.S. Flight Log, engine log books, maintenance manuals, approved program letter from the FAA and other documentation accompany the aircraft. The FAA Registry number is "N221GL" and the SN is 94A7809. The aircraft has been prepared for ground shipment. All that is required is to unbolt the wings and place it on a standard flatbed trailer. There are numerous additional photographs available along with copies of log books and inspection records. SIZE: Span 23 ft. 6 in. Length 51 ft. 9 in. Height 15 ft. 9 in. Weight 18,080 lbs. max. PROVENANCE: Soviet-made; Polish Air Force. CONDITION: The airframe has approx. 1,240 total hours and the engine has approx. 62 hours. The aircraft is out of annual inspection and the hot ejection seat is out of calendar inspection. Tires need replacing. Although the aircraft was air worthy at the time of the last inspection it is out of inspection periods and as such is sold unreserved, "As Is Where Is", with no guaranty of air worthiness. 4-40791 JR361 (50,000-100,000)
