Raytheon SIFF for UK's Rapier

Said_PVO
Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL) has signed a contract with Matra BAe Dynamics UK Ltd for the supply of Successor Identification Friend or Foe (SIFF) for the Rapier air defence system. SIFF is a multi-phase programme to modernise the MoD's land, sea and air platforms with advanced Mark XII compatible IFF systems.

The four year contract with Matra BAe Dynamics is valued in the region of GBP7 to GBP8 million and follows the selection of RSL as preferred supplier in 1999. The contract will cover the supply of the new generation IFF system to all of the UK's Rapier Field Standard "C" (FSC) ground missile platforms. RSL's facility at Harlow in Essex, has supplied IFF systems to Rapier since the weapon was first introduced into service in the 1970s.

John Weatherley, SIFF Programme Director, said: "This contract closely follows RSL's award of the main SIFF contract by the Ministry of Defence and this will further enable the MoD to benefit considerably from the commonality of approach to SIFF on various platforms. IFF is one of Raytheon's key competencies."
