There are many reproduction and "fake" swords on the market today. Here is a partial list of the patterns of sword that are currently (or have previously) been reproduced. As more are discovered, I will list them. Please send photos or descriptions of the reproductions that you encounter. Be aware that there are companies in India taking current orders to produce exact replicas of collectable swords. The do very good work and these swords have the potential to fool even the advanced collectors. This will be a major problem in the future.

Japanese Swords
1875 (&1886) Army Kyu-Gunto, leather grip wrapping, blade does not have shinogi, ko-shinogi, or yokoti. Scabbard is steel, but has Army style Shin Gunto suspension mountings. Made recently (a few years ago)
1934 (&1938) Army Shin-Gunto, many late 1940's reproductions, Indonesia currently producing really poor fakes
1935 NCO Shin-Gunto, faked by Austrailain troops late 1940's, also reproduced in India
WW II period Japanese Cavalry Sabers (troopers model with steel hilt), Copied and produced for military use by Chinese Army after WW II. A large number of these are on the market now. These are Chinese military swords patterned after Japanese swords. They are often painted green, and do not show Japanese arsenal marks.
Hybrid pattern Japanese Naval Dirk
Kamikazi Dirks, these are short tonto blades in plain wood handles (saya type handles) produced by the thousands after the war and sold to servicemen as "Kamikazi daggers".
German Swords
TBD - Nazi German items have been reproduced to such an extent, that it is safe to assume that ALL regulation patterns have been very skillfully reproduced in large numbers.

to PanzerJager: по двум верхним ссылкам не фуфло, а реплики (кстати, полне хорошие современные ножи, Бокер тоже делает), а вот третья ссылка - нечто неясное. на новодел не похоже, но клейма "Г. Хаммесфар и К" другие описаны, хотя фирма существовала до 1971 года и, возможно, клейма стали ставить без пирамидки с крестиком. тогда - тоже реплика.

Это так, реплики. Реконструкторы рады, юзать историю жестоко. Сам прикуплю себе грабен новодельный вскорости, для души и пользования.
Хуже когда фуфлят с клеймами, подражая оригиналу. И продают фуфло (а не реплику) по цене оригинала.
Я бы по своему скромному опыту добавил: "и ВСЯ Россия на царизм, особенно наградные".

Немного поздно втыкаюсь в эту дискуссию, но этот предмет хорошо известен и много раз обсужлался в коллекционных кругах. Ни одна из этих реплик не обманет мало-мальски осведомленного человека. Многие из них просто грубые. Я держал в руках многие, и у меня есть пара - их видать за версту.
Слегка ближе к оригиналам некоторые реплики рапир делаемые компаниями такими как Cold Steel, но и с ними все ясно даже по фотографиям.
Так что, хотя коллекционер должен знать он них, реально они не представляют большой опасности, разве что для полного новичка.
Про штычок на 98й: что-то где-то пробегало, что после войны их копию делали не очень маленькой партией для америкосовских "миротворцев". Где-то у меня было, вспомню-выложу. Так что е-бей может барыжить не фуфел, но и не Дритте Райх.
