USA Revolutionary War howitzer restoration
While at the Baltimore, USA Antique Gun Show I picked up this scale Revolutionary War Howitzer. It was rusty, dirty and missing many parts. The dealer assured me there was a gem under all that dirt. I'm not sure what scale. The dimensions are 24"l x 17"W x 11"H with a 1 3/8" bore. To restore, I submerged the barrel and all metal parts in a ultrasonic cleaner filled with rust remover. After 20 minutes the parts were clean and rust was gone. The wood under the dust was walnut and oak. After cleaning, staining and finishing, the wood was ready to assemble. I decided to blue most of the metal parts. The missing parts had to be fabricated and finished.
